ArrowSway

The following statement sets out the position of the ArrowSway development team regarding information arising from use of the mobile game ArrowSway. It is written as continuous text rather than as a checklist, because the practices it describes are best understood together.

Terms Used in This Statement

Throughout this statement, the Game refers to the ArrowSway application in any version distributed through an authorised marketplace. The Team refers to the developer and publisher of the Game. Player Material refers to any information generated on, transmitted from, or associated with a device on which the Game is installed. Provider refers to an independent company engaged by the Team to carry out a defined technical function.

The Position in Summary

The Team takes the view that a puzzle game should ask for as little as it can. The Game therefore operates without registration, without a profile, and without any request for identity documents, telephone numbers, postal addresses, or social accounts. Player Material consists almost entirely of records about a game session and about the equipment on which it ran, not about the individual holding that equipment.

Material Arising From Play

A puzzle game that forgets what has been solved is of little use, and so the Game maintains a running record of the state of play. That record notes the levels completed and the levels outstanding, the result achieved on each attempt, the quantity of hints or currency held, and the configuration chosen in the options screen. It is written primarily into the private storage area that the operating system reserves for the Game, and where a synchronisation or restore feature is enabled it may additionally be written to storage operated by the Team or by the marketplace from which the Game was obtained.

Material Arising From the Device

Mobile hardware varies enough that a single rendering path cannot serve every handset. The Game accordingly reads the device model, the operating system release, its own build number, the resolution and density of the display, the language and region configured in the system, and the class of network connection currently active. Such readings describe equipment. The Team does not assemble them into a profile of an individual, nor attempt to identify a person from them.

Material Arising From Failure

Where the Game terminates unexpectedly, a record of the failure may be produced and transmitted for examination. Such a record ordinarily consists of the point of failure within the program, the sequence of operations preceding it, a summary of memory in use, and the readings described in the preceding paragraph. The Team examines failure records for the sole purpose of correcting defects.

Material Supplied by the Player

No obligation to correspond with the Team arises from installing the Game. Should a player nevertheless choose to write, the Team receives the content of that correspondence, together with whatever return address the player writes from and whatever files the player elects to attach. Such material is examined in order to answer the enquiry, retained while the matter remains open, and cleared once it is settled.

The Uses to Which Material Is Put

Player Material is applied to the operation and improvement of the Game and to nothing further. In practice that means restoring a session where it left off, delivering content a player has unlocked or purchased, identifying and correcting defects, judging from aggregate figures whether a particular level frustrates a disproportionate number of players, verifying that a transaction completed, identifying attempts to modify the Game or falsify a score, and answering correspondence. The Team does not sell Player Material, does not licence it to data brokers, and does not use it to reach players through channels outside the Game.

Engagement of Providers

Certain functions are performed by Providers rather than by the Team directly: the compilation of usage statistics, the monitoring of failures, the delivery and measurement of advertisements where the Game displays them, and distribution and purchase validation through the marketplace. A Provider receives only such Player Material as its function requires, acts on the Team's instructions in respect of that material, and publishes privacy terms of its own that govern its handling. Players who wish to understand a Provider's practices in detail should consult those terms.

Transactions

Where the Game offers optional content for payment, the transaction is conducted by the marketplace that supplied the Game and not by the Team. Payment credentials, card numbers, and billing addresses are submitted to that marketplace and are neither received nor stored by the Team. What the Team receives is confirmation that a particular item was purchased, which permits delivery of the item and consideration of any subsequent refund request.

Safeguards

Transmission between the Game and systems operated by the Team is encrypted in transit. Stored material is subject to access control, and administrative access is confined to those members of the Team whose duties require it. The Team considers these safeguards reasonable and proportionate to the sensitivity of the material held, while acknowledging that no measure applied to a networked system can be described as absolute.

Duration of Retention

Material is retained no longer than the purpose for which it was gathered requires. A record of play persists while the Game remains installed and, where synchronisation applies, for a limited further period so that reinstallation does not defeat a player's progress. Failure records are cleared once the defect concerned is resolved. Statistical material is reduced to aggregate form from which no individual installation can be recovered. Transaction records are retained for the period prescribed by applicable accounting and tax rules.

Children

The Game is offered to a general audience and is not directed to children under the age of thirteen. The Team does not knowingly gather personal information from a child of that age, and where it becomes aware that such information has been received, it takes reasonable steps to remove it. A parent or guardian holding such a concern may raise it through the official support channels.

Entitlements of the Player

The law of a player's country of residence may confer entitlements in respect of Player Material, commonly including access to the material held, correction of inaccuracy, erasure, restriction of processing, and objection to a particular use. A player wishing to exercise such an entitlement should apply through the official support channels and should quote the installation identifier shown in the options screen, since the Team holds no name against which an application could otherwise be matched. Material that the Team is required to retain by law, or that is necessary to prevent fraud or protect the integrity of the Game, will be retained notwithstanding such an application.

Revision

The Team may revise this statement to reflect alteration of the Game, substitution of a Provider, or development of the law. A revision takes effect upon publication through the Team's official channels and supersedes the text it replaces.

Correspondence

Questions concerning this statement may be addressed to the ArrowSway support team through the official support channels published with the Game.
